Study Away
Programs in Economics
Economics faculty and students have participated in
study away programs in Russia and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and
Southern Europe, and Western Europe. Outside of our departmental
foreign study offerings, students often arrange study away programs
with other departments or on their own.
In addition to the programs described on this page, we encourage
students of economics to explore one of the
fifteen other study
abroad
and exchange experiences that take students to six continents.

Recognizing India's
historical and
contemporary
significance in the world, the Economics Department is participating in
the inaugural launch of a Study Away program to India that provides
opportunity for Furman students to learn from across various
disciplines and to cultivate intellectual exchanges with Indian
students, scholars, artists, activists, and business leaders. The trip
will center in a few hub cities from where the group will make
excursions to rural and urban architectural, commercial, environmental,
historical, and industrial locations.

Study Away Charleston |
|

|
|
The Department of
Economics offers a study away
program in Charleston, South Carolina, most summer terms (jointly with
Business and History). With one of the most vibrant ports in
North America, Charleston offers unparalleled opportunities for
students to explore aspects of both international and domestic
commerce. Because this program involves both a classroom
experience and an internship
with a local Charleston business, students will gain not only academic
credit towards graduation but also practical business experience in one
of the South's most charming cities.

Study Away Australia |

Although Furman creates and runs
the vast majority of its own study abroad options, we do have an
affiliation with Australearn, a consortium of 20 universities in
Australia and New Zealand. The variety of universities involved is a
major attraction of this program: you can study in the ultra-urban
environments of Sydney or Melbourne, along the Goldcoast or in the
Outback. The vibrancy of the Australian economy has made this a natural
fit for economics majors. This program is available to students in most
academic terms.
